Data protection, labour law and real estate were among the most important areas of practice in BAS’s activity in 2019.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

<\/h4>\n

Labour and self-employed workers<\/strong><\/h4>\n

At the beginning of 2019 new amendments to the Contributory Code of the Self-Employed worker came into force. D\u00e1lia Cardadeiro and Beatriz Correia Mendes highlighted here<\/a> the most important changes to the Code.<\/p>\n

In February, the new Equal Pay Law came into force and partner D\u00e1lia Cardadeiro<\/strong> talked about the new changes to the law in this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Real Estate<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Regime for Real Estate Investment and Management Companies (RSIGI) also came into force in February, approved by Decree-Law no. 19\/2019, of 28 January. The Investment and Real Estate Management Companies (SIGI) presented themselves as a new investment vehicle that aims to promote and stimulate the real estate market in Portugal. The article<\/a> by Artur Filipe Silva and Diogo Moreira Ramos, published in BAS’s website, analyses how Portugal adopted the Real Estate Investment Trusts Regime (REIT).<\/p>\n

BAS participated for the first time in the MIPIM in Cannes and talks here<\/a> about this event.<\/p>\n

Data Protection<\/strong><\/h4>\n

2019 was a year of consolidation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), with several legislation, regulations, guidelines and directives on the matter coming into force. The long-awaited Law No. 58\/2019, of August 8, which ensures the implementation, in the national legal order, of the GDPR, was published, which received harsh criticism from the National Data Protection Commission and culminated in Resolution No. 494\/2019, of September 3, 2019, through which the commission decided that it will discard some of the rules of that law, as it believes that they clearly go against the provisions of the European Data Protection Regulation.<\/p>\n

In the scope of Data Protection and to mark one year from the entry into force of the GDPR, BAS held a workshop<\/a> on the subject which had as key speakers Cl\u00e1udia Monge, lawyer and partner of BAS, Catarina Jos\u00e9, director of HR, Compliance, Mkt & Com, and Margarida Ferreira, the Chairman of the Board of the Association of Data Protection and Security Professionals.<\/p>\n

Recognition<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The nomination of our colleague Marco Aur\u00e9lio Constantino<\/a> is “a recognition of his contribution to the Law Firm, his path and technical quality, dedication and alignment with BAS\u2019s values and mission”, said Artur Filipe da Silva<\/p>\n

In March, BAS – Sociedade de Advogados, SP, RL was ranked by Chambers Europe 2019’s ranking<\/a> in the areas of Employment (band 4), Life Sciences (Recognized Practitioner) and Public Law (Recognized Practitioner) in Portugal. Lawyers Alexandra Almeida Mota (band 3) and Pedro Madeira de Brito (band 3) remain individually in the European directory’s ranking as references in Portugal in Labour Law (Employment).<\/p>\n

With the year coming to an end, we highlight the recognition of five BAS lawyers by the Best Lawyers in Portugal awards in five practice areas<\/a>, Pedro Madeira de Brito (Labour and Employment Law and Health Law; Jane Kirkby (Administrative Law), Cl\u00e1udia Monge (Health, Privacy and Data Security and Administrative Law), Alexandra Almeida Mota (Labour and Employment Law) and Marco Real Martins (Public and Administrative Law).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
