Data Protection: BAS joins APDPO

In addition to working in the area of Data Protection, BAS wants to draw closer to the main national players in this sector, such as the Portuguese Association of Data Protection Officers (APDPO), of which BAS has recently become a member. Learn more about this institution.

The Portuguese Association of Data Protection Officers (Associação Portuguesa de Data Protection Officers – APDPO) is an innovative project with the mission of promoting and developing best data protection practices.

The goal is to equip and prepare specialized officers or its associates to perform the various activities necessary to implement safe practices in data protection and control.

Improve knowledge

For many years BAS has been providing legal advice on Data Protection and for the last two years, in particular, on the General Data Protection Regulation. In the meantime, it began to implement the GDPR rules in its own activity, and it was only natural an approach to the APDPO. In addition, the possibility of taking advantage of the training provided by the organization to its members was another opportunity to deepen its knowledge on the subject.

Two BAS partners participated in the 1st and 2nd Editions of the “European Data Protection and Privacy Law” training, organized by APDPO, in November 2017 and April 2018, respectively.

In February 2018, the Broken Authentication Workshop took place, aimed at data protection professionals, as well as Data Protection Officers, in which BAS was also present, represented by one of its partners. In this workshop the trainees were placed in the role of Hackers using the Virtualbox application, installed in their laptops, and had the opportunity to focus and recreate all situations related to:

  • Brute Force Attacks;
  • Credential Stuffing;
  • Attacks to the recovery of Passwords system;
  • Use of weak passwords.

APDPO is now joining BAS in the organization of the workshop “Two years of GDPR. Are we ready?” that the law firm will hold next May.
