Five lawyers of BAS were recognized in Best Lawyers

Five lawyers and five practice areas of BAS were recognized by their peers in the 2020 edition of Best Lawyers in Portugal.

Pedro Madeira de Brito, ranked in the Best Lawyers in Portugal since 2010, and having been recognized as Lawyer of the Year in 2019, is once again selected in the Labour and Employment Law practice area and, for the first time, in Health Law.

Partners Jane Kirkby (Administrative Law), Cláudia Monge (Health, Privacy and Data Security and Administrative Law), Alexandra Almeida Mota (Labour and Employment Law) and Marco Real Martins (Public and Administrative Law) are in this selection for the first time in the 2020 edition.

The American directory distinguishes the best lawyers in each area of legal practice in the various jurisdictions, based on peer voting.

PEDRO MADEIRA DE BRITO

Pedro Madeira de Brito, assistant professor at the University of Lisbon Law School is recognized in the Best Lawyers since 2010, BAS’s year of foundation, and is an expert in the practice areas of Private and Public Labour Law, Social Security, Administrative Law and Public Procurement and Civil and Labour Litigation.

With deep knowledge of employment and social security issues in the public and private sectors, he participated in the drafting of the 2003 Portuguese Labour Law Code. Pedro Madeira de Brito has extensive experience in representing clients before labour courts and in collective bargaining processes on behalf of employers and trade unions. He is the author of numerous publications in specialized magazines on labour law and labour procedural law issues.

He is also knowledgeable about labour law in Mozambique. He also has extensive experience in corporate restructuring, collective redundancies, definition of remuneration policies, contract models and disciplinary actions.

 

CLÁUDIA MONGE

Recognized for the first time in the 2020 edition of Best Lawyers in Portugal in the practice areas of Health Law, Data Protection and Administrative Law, Cláudia Monge is a partner at BAS and an Assistant Professor at the Lisbon University Law School (FDUL). Her work is especially dedicated to Health Law, in the different issues included in this area of practice, and to Personal Data Protection, which is one of the strategic practice areas of the law firm.

Cláudia Monge has a PhD from FDUL in the area of Legal and Political Sciences with her work The right to health protection and the content of medical care and a Master’s Degree in Legal and Political Sciences from the same Faculty. She is a Researcher at the Public Law Research Centre of the Lisbon University Faculty of Law. She is the author of several publications in her areas of expertise.

 

JANE KIRKBY

Jane Kirkby is one of BAS’s lawyers recognized in the 2020 edition of Best Lawyers in Portugal. The partner of BAS who obtained recognition for her work in the practice area of Administrative Law has a Master in Medical Law and Ethics from King’s College London since 2007, a post-graduation in Health Law by the Portuguese Catholic University in 2005, and she graduated in Law from the Lisbon University Law School in 2003. Author of articles in newspapers, magazines and digital publications such as Actualidade Ibérica, Saúde Médica and Jornal Económico. Her practice is mainly focused in the areas of Administrative Law and Public Procurement, Health Law, as well as Data Protection.

 

MARCO REAL MARTINS

Recognized for the first time in the 2020 edition of Best Lawyers in Portugal in the practice areas of Public Law and Administrative Law, Marco Real Martins is a lawyer and partner of BAS, working in the areas of Administrative Litigation, Administrative Law and Public Procurement, and Health and Life Sciences Law.

Marco Real Martins holds a Masters Degree in Administrative Law and Public Procurement from the School of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University Portuguese Catholic University) since 2010, and holds postgraduate degrees in Administrative Litigation (Portuguese Catholic University) and Legal-Administrative Sciences (Lisbon University Law School).

 

ALEXANDRA ALMEIDA MOTA

With her work recognized in the 2020 edition of the Best Lawyers in Portugal in the practice area of Labour Law, Alexandra Almeida Mota is a lawyer at BAS in the area of Labour Law and Social Security. She graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University, completed her master’s degree in the area of Legal Sciences at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and specialised in “Relaciones Laborales”, at the Madrid Business Institute. She has been a lawyer since 1998. She regularly participates as a speaker in conferences and has published a relevant number of articles.

Alexandra has a thorough knowledge of employment and social security issues. She is particularly active in corporate restructuring processes, including collective redundancies, downsizing processes and the conclusion of recall agreements. She has a profound knowledge of the Iberian market. She assists international clients in implementing their international policies and practices in Portugal. Large experience in representing clients before labour courts and the Portuguese inspection authorities. Wide experience in representing trade unions and workers’ commissions. Individual member of EELA – European Association of Employment Lawyers and ABA – American Bar Association.
